Pike: Techniques and Lures that are working now.

Recommended Posts

Fished Zara Spooks and other Topwater baits over shallow weeds this morning with great success.

What is working now for you?

Do not need to get specific about lakes or spots, keep it general if you want.

Hammered the pike casting spinnerbaits on inside weeds edges this weekend in 4-7 ft of water. After the arms got tired we grabbed some beverages and threw out spoons and trolled. Proceeded to catch just as many if not more while trolling. Nothing of great size but lots of fun action.

Lindy rigs tipped with a fathead minnow along the weedline. Good chance of catching walleyes also. If one color blade doesn't work try another. Green/yellow along with red/yellow has been working for me

Suckers under a bobber were working for other people. That's ALL I was seeing other people fish with last time I was out.

I've been using paddletail swimbaits that swim JUST under the surface of the water and sometimes high enough to be considered a swimbait/wakebait. I've been working over weeds. They've been inhaling the thing quite ferociously when they're turned on.

I also had success with a very small perch colored x-rap that my girlfriend picked out at Cabelas. She was happy that "her" lure caught a fish smile

I only picked up two small pike today on paddle tail swimbaits. They weren't touching anything else. The bass however were turned on for a few hours and I got some on soft plastics and zara spooks.

My hot lure last week was a firetiger 5 blade Mepps Aglia. Of course this lure has so many fish on it that it's once brown skirt is now down to about 10 strands of bucktail.

Got 3 between 32-35" in about a half hour earlier on the same topwater, only one last time out came on a Magnum Bulldog. I did somehow manage to snag one that pushed 40" with a Dardevle. Was a little dumbfounded when she came to the surface and the spoon was in her back.
