Selmer
I've been hearing from some guys fishing Beeds that a population of yellow bass has been established in Beeds Lake from guys bringing them down from Clear Lake. Anyone else heard about this? When I get some time next week I'll be out there in the morning trying to get crappies and some of these yellows. I heard of some up to 12" caught during the winter. Whisker Trout Slayer
That doesn't sound good for a lake that small, as I would bet that the lake will soon become over run withthem and they will have to drain the lake to kill them all off like they have done with lakes in southern Iowa.Still would be interesting to see what you find out. JIvers
Bad news if it's true--yellow bass destroy small lakes like Beeds further south in Iowa. Maybe Beeds is far enough north to keep their numbers in check. If not, the lake will need to be killed off with poison and re-stocked from scratch. The worst part is the fact that there is no way yellows got there by themselves from Clear Lake or anywhere else. Score another one for the bucket biologists. All it takes is one [PoorWordUsage] who thinks he knows better than the professionals what is good for a lake to screw everything up. Selmer
I'll do some investigating with a boat out there in the next couple weeks, it's only a 5 minute drive for me.
