Which season ?

Why do you guys choose the season you do?

I have always picked the later season closest t0 May 10th or so. I was told that is when most hens start to sit on nests and then the gobblers are a little more active trying to find hens, plus I beaver trap most years until about that time depending, so it is what works for me.

I guess those are good reasons Lee, to hold off till later. My cousins do the same thing try to shoot for May 10th for their seasons as well.

This was my 1st season of hunting after I have been applying for the last 2 years. So I picked my season "B" cuz it was during the week and figured everyone else wouldn't put in for B because they would have to take off of work during the week. Also I was just told by other buddies who turkey hunt around the same area where I did, that earlier in the season is better because of the birds haven't been pressured as much as a later season such as E or F, and everything isn't as green or blossoming earlier than later. Those are my main reasons, but I should say now after I have a season under my belt, I will keep putting in for an earlier season in the future just so it doesn't interfere with fishing opener, and I have an annual Boundary Waters fishing trip every year at the end of May. Plus I am a diehard Late ice panfisherman rather than spring (time between ice out & fishing opener) so the earlier spring season hunts work best for me.

I allways apply for the first season to get the jump on the birds I like them with the least hunting pressure and the first week is the best for that, the weather can be tricky the first few seasons but with proper scouting you shouldn't have a problem. You can aslo get into the big groups of birds that have not broke up for the summer yet.
