Locator installation?

UNIT

Question

I have a new trolling motor and am looking at installing a new locator on the bow. Any suggestions for a good unit for a reliable second to be used when the trolling motor is in use. I had an old flasher on the front but it finally wore out and I liked the versatility of this style locator but am open to suggestions.

Second question, can I use the basic high speed transducer that comes with the unit or do I need to get a different style. I suppose it may vary by company and style.

I believe both Humminbird and Lowrance have trolling motor mount transducers. You can use the standard transom mount on the trolling motor but it will take some special rigging to get it to work.

Lowrance for sure... and possibly Humminbird have a bracket that hose-clamps to the lower unit of the trolling motor and will allow for a transom mount transducer to work... however, they make puck transducers that are pretty low profile that accomplish the same task.

I agree with Hookmaster. I just bought and installed an Eagle Fishmark 320 for $109 from the big "C" for this exact purpose. I bought a trolling motor mount transducer for around $50 and a Ram mount for $25. For less than $200 I got a great locator set-up. Can you buy fancier, more expensive locator? Absolutely. However I think this Eagle is about as good of value as you are going to find. Decent resolution and great reliability.

It depends if you want bandw or color.... the elite is a very nice color gps unit for the money or an hds which you can network with another down the road, or if you want bandw the new mark 5s from lowrance are nice
