Fun day fishing

Recommended Posts

Not sure if any of you are looking for some fun fast action (especially good for kids) but the White Bass (yes its legal to fish them now) are going good on the St. Croix. Really easy and mindless fishing as well. I spent a few hours with my two girls trying to find a half dozen crappies in a lake - I went to the river with a friend and we had pretty good action so I know where I'm headed on the next family outing.

I have had my boat out twice now, once with the Lakejumpers and once with a very special friend. I had fun both times. I went out on Bald Eagle with Char last weekend and we had 30mph winds. Got soaked trying to go across the lake, kinda reminded me of Mille Lacs laugh Now my boat is full of snow... cry I forgot to put the cover on.....

Its been awful quiet around here lately. I've been busy chasing big toothies and was going to put up some photos of me and friends with big fish but decided to show you one of my tax deductions;) instead. My older daugher is a total princess who likes to drive the boat and eat doughnuts but this is my little "Musky-ette" who is already fine touching leeches and taking her own fish off. Gotta love the 5 year old tossing the big stuff... Hope you all have a great weekend.

I remember taking my litle ones to some pond in Lake Forest, Ill., not far from where we lived back then. BG had bought Power Ranger rods for the boys, who were about 2 and 4. Maggie got a Cinderala rod. The bobbers on each weren't subtle, but Eric and I never really had a chance to fish. Their unacceptable bobbers had called in the little fish. I stood back and laughed as Eric unhooked fish, baited lines, tried to pick up his own pole just to give up and spend the whole afternoon playing Dad. I laughed, left him to it and took off on my rollerblades. When I got back, he was smiling and laughing and his pole was still leaning on the truck unused.

Good day.

Those were the best days. A Cinderella bobber and pretty pink reel and Eric would have Maggie out whenever he could. SAhe came home one day and ws thrilled cuz she has caught a fish. "He didn't eat my bait mom, I snagged him through the back." Eric just didn't have the heart to tell her she had aknowledged her minnow. Yep, life is good.

Some of my best childhood memories were when my dad would rent a pontoon so the whole family could fit in the boat and everyone used cane poles. All the fish were thrown into a gunny sack and that night was always a big fish fry. That was quite a few years ago but it still brings a smile to my face. I forget just what birthday that I did receive my first fishing pole but it was a Zebco 202. That fishing pole was a real fish catching machine back in its days and later on I upgraded to the 404. All fond memories grin

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
