Question

ive had this unit for three years, last year it started dropping gps positon quite frequently "position lost" then "position aquired". sometime dropping position for several minutes. the sonar continues to work fine. maybe a coincidence but seemed to get worse once i installed the 2009 lakemaster chip. anyone else have this issue? could it be related to a bad transducer? i checked it out in the garage yesterday and transducer ticking statrs fasta nd intense then slows in speed and intensity to where you can barel hear or feel it. anyone else have this issue?

Same problem here.....replaced transducer last spring, now it's belly up again. Looks like another transducer. I'm starting to believe the quaility of Lowrance is going down the tubes. As far as losing GPS signal, you can download an update that should help with that. Might have to start shopping for a Hummingbird.

The transducer ticking has nothing to do with the GPS and is not a problem, it's normal when you're out of the water.

I think it's unlikely that the '09 map card is causing your gps problem but it should be easy enough to test that theory, try using it with and without the map card for a while and see if you notice any difference.

I'd definately make sure you have the latest software upgrade loaded to the unit, and a soft reset wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I've never had a problem with my GPS. Is it in the open, that's one thing the salesman told me if I was going to go with an internal antenna. Don't put it behind a windsheild or anything the metal framework might even mess it up. To go with an external antenna if it wasn't going to be in the open just to be safe. I might be wrong (would have to check the manual) but I think you can hook up an external to 522c. Transducer souldn't have anything to do with it. I don't even think the map chip should, thats just an overlay on the GPS I think. GPS doesn't work off the lake contour to get your position. The chip might be causing the system to be having other issues and in return your loosing signal, but I dought the two are related.

I had an issue like this with my old gps unit. I believe it was the fact that I was on the "WAAS Required" setting. (Someone please correct me if I am totally wrong on this).

Go to menu-

GPS set-up

Take it off waas required.
