Extremely squeaky dryer

LM2 I would bet it is a worn bearing in one of the idlers/rollers the drums supports on towards the back (I think only two of them). IMO a couple hours at most. As cheap as they are I would just replace any and all (maybe a belt also). Look up Dey Appliance Parts in Coon Rapids. They will become your next best friend in anything appliance parts wise. wink

Good luck!

I've seen kits that have a new belt and the rollers and they only cost $30 or so. It's not that hard to replace the stuff so give it a try. Be sure to unplug it and turn off the gas if you are going to do anything at all.

Be sure to have all the model and serial numbers available. I've tried to buy parts on line and it seldom has worked out. I agree that a good appliance store like Dey is the place to go.

I replaced both idler wheels in my 10 year old Maytag for about $40 and an hour of time. The belt looked like new. I also cleaned out all the lint from the inside of the dryer and the vent pipe. Runs like brand new now. Cleaning the lint cut the drying time by a lot.

Actually, it was quite squeaky for about 3 weeks, gradually getting louder and more frequent.

With the grass season starting early, it was on the to-do list, but didn't get done, and with as dusty as it has been, along with an 8 and 4 year old, there's the daily load of laundry.

Then 2 nights ago, it stopped.

As soon as it stopped I went downstairs to make sure the thing didn't catch fire, or was smoking like mad, but it was still drying and still tumbling. The clothes came out dry.

I think a screw or nut must have fallen out of a pocket of mine and gotten into the dryer and has finally worked itself out.
