theoilman
AMSOIL Quickshot SEDegraded fuel presents a major maintenance issue in small engines and powersports equipment. It can form varnish, gum and insoluble debris that clog carburetors, fuel injectors and fuel filters. Carbon buildup can form on the tops of pistons that leads to pre-ignition, rough idling and poor throttle response. Fuel-related problems are only expected to intensify in the coming years as the ethanol content in pump gasoline continues to increase.AMSOIL Quickshot SE (AQS) is a premium fuel additive formulated to thoroughly clean and restore peak performance in small engine and powersports equipment fuel systems. It also stabilizes fuel between uses and during short-term storage periods. Its revolutionary technology focuses on three major fuel-related issues plaguing small engines and powersports equipment: ethanol, water and dirty pump gas.EthanolEthanol in fuel has a tendency to absorb water and separate from the gasoline, sinking to the bottom of the gas tank, where it quickly degrades and creates gum, varnish and other insoluble debris that can plug fuel flow passages and negatively affect engine performance. When this ethanol/water mixture is pulledinto the engine, it creates a lean burn situation that increases combustion chamber temperatures and can lead to engine damage. AMSOIL Quickshot SE is designed to keep water dispersed throughout the tank, moving it out as a normal part of operation and decreasing the chance of ethanol separating from the gasoline.Quickshot SE was tested in fuel containing 10 percent ethanol. Controlled plugging of injectors showed a 70 percent flow improvement, while oxidation stability improved 44 percent over untreated fuel.WaterWater finds its way into gas tanks through condensation in tanks open to the atmosphere, gas pumps and other environmental conditions, and if left untreated, will cause a myriad of starting, performance and corrosion problems. By keeping water dispersed in tiny molecules and safely moving it out of the tank through the combustion chamber, Quickshot SE helps maintain engine performance and protects against damaging corrosion.Dirty GasolineDirty gasoline causes fuel system gumming and varnish, as well as piston and combustion chamber deposits. Although all gasoline sold in the U.S. is formulated with a lowest additive concentration (LAC) level of detergent additives, these detergent levels are not enough to prevent deposits from building up on critical fuel system components. Quickshot SE contains unique chemistry that quickly detaches and carries away deposits and buildups in fuel systems, injectors and carburetors, while also cleaning hard-to-remove deposits on piston tops, spark plugs and other combustion chamber parts.ApplicationsQuickshot SE is recommended for use in all two- and four-stroke gasoline-powered engines, including motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, personal watercraft, ATVs, edgers, tillers, mowers, snowblowers, chainsaws, generators and farm and construction equipment. However, AMSOIL P.i. Performance Improver is the superior choice for passenger vehicle applications.RecommendationsQuickshot SE is designed for an initial clean-up dose of 8 oz. per 6 gallons of gasoline, followed by 8 oz. per 12 gallons thereafter. jwhjr
This should work well for those who can't find non-oxygenated fuel or just don't use it. Thanks for the heads up Don!
harvey lee
Looks to be a great new product.
blakeb
holy buckets that stuff is expensive! I think that i will go without.
theoilman
How expensive are the carburetor and fuel system repairs?Let alone, the aggrevation - when you are out on the lake and your boat won't run right or may not crank at all. Now you have had an unhappy day on the lake, you come home and 'kick your cat' and get your wife mad at you too ..... When you could have had a great time for a whole lot less that the cost of repairs! You want it for the lowest cost? Become a Preferred Customer and get all your AMSOIL products for wholesale. blakeb
i like to think that my fuel water seperator is going to help keep the issue at bay. Dont get me wrong i think that you have a excellent product, just a whole lot of money per oz. IMO
311Hemi
What are the differences between this and say Seafoam?
theoilman
First of all, yes, SeaFoam is a competitor with some of Quick Shot features. I have never personally used SeaFoam so I cannot personally compare them. The Quick Shot is new, just introduced this month so I am just starting to use it, but AMSOIL has had it in development and testing for many months. I look forward to not having the water separation that I have had in my gas can and in the fuel tank to my lawn tractor - first of all visible water separation, then turns dark as the gas continues to oxidize and deteriorate. The Quick Shot works by keeping the water in very tiny droplets and chemically keeping it from wanting to combine with the ethanol, eliminating the ethanol-water attraction. It is all kept in phase and can burn through the system. It also keeps the ethanol from attacking the carburetors and other components. It has very strong cleaners to remove existing gum, varnish and carbon. At a clean-up treat rate it will also replace products like the Yamaha Ring-Free (carbon cleaner). To compare with SeaFoam I went out and checked their HSOforum. They brag that their product is unchanged since formulated in the 1930s. By the experience of many posts I have read here in these forums many brag on SeaFoams cleaning and storage protection properties. SeaFoam also claims to 'control water' but they do not discuss anything about how. My thought about it is how can it do a good job of controlling the ethanol-water problems with a 80 year old formula when they didn't have today's fuels. Today's ethanol has a very weak bond to the gasoline and would rather come out of phase and join the water. Without being designed to address this specific problem how can it do a good job? Also, according to their MSDS it contains an alcohol itself (petrol based? rather than grain based?). This seems like it would work against controlling the ethanol. The ethanol-water problem is relatively new, only a few years old. AMSOIL Quick Shot is new technology designed to solve the problems of today's formulated gasoline.
