FlatBottom
I don't want spots, I was just wondering where to look? I'm able to find them summer and fall, but spring I have one heck of a time. Especially with high water. Do you look in back little pockets off current, now sunken timber, rubble, shallow/deep,..etc? Any little tidbits would be appreciated. My wife and little girl LOOOOOOOOOVE crappie. Thanks
OnAFly
Look for anything shallow and away from the main current. They should be looking to start the spawn pretty soon, in the next month or so. If you find water that is warmer than the rest of the river, you've found a good spot to start. If you do get into spawning crappies, be careful on taking too many of the larger fish. Taking the larger spawning fish out of a fishery can stunt the fishery.

OnAFly
Was it an older guy with a beard? While looking for a 10wt rod at The Big C last year, I was talking with him and he mentioned going out to the metro lakes with a fly rod a lot. Though, he only mentioned fishing muskies. I don't know that he fishes pannies and bass.
