Can Wave Wackers be modified for Vantage???

haleysgold

Question

I have a set of Wave Wackers on a boat I just bought but it has a normal electric trolling motor with the Wave Wacker V-groove cut in the starboard side for the trolling motor. I don't really want to spend the money for a new side that fits a Vantage which would be over $200.

Can I cut the Wave Wacker and modify it to fit the Vantage? If so, what do I cut it with?

Anybody ever done that? Suggestions? Opinions?

Thanks in advance!

Be really careful when cutting that stuff cracks easy.

You will likely have to add additional supports. You may want to call wave wackers and see if you can send them the side and have them modify and add the supports and rubber.

I would agree with witecaps. the guy there is quite nice and easy to deal with. I had the panel between my vantage and motor fall off in the middle of the lake somewhere and could not find it. I called him and he sent me a new one for $30. I'm not sure if he will work on wave wacker stuff or not but it can't hurt to call.

I'll give WhiteCaps a call and see what they say.

Otherwise, I'll give it a whirl myself. I checked with WW and they won't take that side on a trade in so if I wreck, Oh well..

I'll let you know my results.

Thanks for the help guys!

A jig saw with a fine blade works great. Just make sure you're holding it down firmly to your workbench so that it doesn't chatter and vibrate. Try to avoid having any sharp corners where cuts meet, as this will be a weak point that could crack down the line. I've custom trimmed a few sets for myself and friends, and it is pretty easy, just take your time and you'll be fine.

I ended up ordering the right side from Whitecaps. He gave me a great deal on it and I'm sure it'll look much nicer than after I tried chopping it up.

I never thought about it but I would need new rubber and probably supports if I had tried cutting it myself.

Thanks for the tip on checking with WhiteCaps!

I think that will be the best plan for me.

If anybody needs a slightly used right side for a normal trolling motor, let me know...it's for sale!
