Hey all, just checking in! April 29th thru May 3rd area 425 archery. Can't wait! 19,20, and 21st I will be up at Camp Ripley helping in the disabled veterans hunt with my dad. I have never done that before so I am excited to call for them. I will also be taking my 15yr old son out. I am trying to convince him to use his bow but am not having any luck. He still likes the big bang!

Hey guys! I saw this today and got a little more fired up to chase those long beards!!!

My dad and I will be hunting MN Season F May 9-13 in Permit area 243, between Nimrod and Menahga. I believe it is the first time there has been a season in this area, hopefully the birds won't be too call shy! LOL

We are planning on bowhunting, but are brining out shotguns along too, just in case the birds aren't working well. Planning on doing some scouting down there towards the end of April. Looking forward to it!!!

As far as a team name......."Gobbler gurus" or "tominators"......or???

Shoulda signed my son up... his season is right around the corner. April 10-11 and then again the end of May.

I'll be hunting 349G this year, and I'm switching jobs - they wanted me to start the first day of my season but I convinced them to let me start a week later! Pretty excited

I'll vote for The Tominators...unless we want to throw in some David Bowie reference to Major Tom

We just returned from painting the old farmhouse we stay at. Its really in bad shape but the land we hunt is great.The farmers are really glad we went down to help get the place in better shape. I saw 8 Toms today in the two fields we hunt. The birds were in full strut so I think they will be ahead of schedule this year. Hunting with my son for 2 days, he's attends U of Wisc Eau Claire. Season 349C. Our group has a lot of late season times so our challenge is there. Good Luck DrJ.

I've had the calls out for the last couple of weeks. I've about drove my wife nuts calling, so know I've been practicing when she's at work.

I've got my new bow dialed in and plan on going out and patterning the shotgun too.

We're gonna go down to our area the 1st weekend in May for some scouting.

All I have to do is get the pop up camper in working order and re-filled w/ the summer gear.

Oh yeah, I'm PUMPED!!!

BMC,

Are you hunting out of a blind with that bow? I have an Escape DX that is pretty large- lots of room in it for a couple of guy's. When practicing for the archrey hunt last year I found that the bottom of my windows were a litle tall for shooting off a stool- I have the hole in the blind to prove it . What really made it tricky was moving the target to 10 yards from the blind. I would suggest that you set things up and see what works and what does not before you get in the woods. The DB Darkhorse and Matrix of the past had the adjustable window- Something to be aware of. If you have to move close to the window to shoot you will probably be spooking birds.

This year - BOOM - I can still shoot a little low and get my bird

I have a hole in my blind from last year as well. Mine a turkey could actually walk thru due to my bullhead mishap. Dang that is a big hole. I need to get that thing fixed next week thanks for reminding me!

Sorgy, thanks for the tip! We use the same blind for bowhunting deer in the fall, so no problems there! I can imagine a few gobblers have escaped death by arrows clipping a piece of the blind! LOL

On a side note, I just got off the phone w/ the landowner where my dad and I will be hunting. It sounds like turkeys galore!!! C'mon May 9-13!!!!! We're headed down there May 2nd for a scouting mission.

What zone are you hunting? I have not been to my area in 227 yet but it alwas has held birds.

I hope my daughter can make a few days/evenings work in her schedule- she has a job and classes to work her season around Me I just have a job that I will burn some vacation time on

RBS- just shoot another test shot a little to the right and left and you should be good to go for the turkey season Just make sure that you tape up the tears on the inside so they don't run down to the bottom of the blind..

My blind is not a real option for the bow- that bottom of the window is very high- I suppose I could stand up and shoot that 10 yard shot out the window- It is a lot of movement thou.

We are going to be hunting in area 243, between Nimrod and Menahga. I think it's the first time they've had a season in this area. Hopefully there's a bunch of longbeards running around! The landowner said he saw a flock of about 30 the other day with some strutters in the group. I'm pumped....only a month to go! LOL

How is everyone doing? Anyone been out doing any scouting???

I made it out Sat 7:00 PM. Saw a nice flock of birds 12 + out in a field and 3 more in the next field over

I then walked the public land nearby and there was one pickup already there on site I got out and started walking down one of the trails and what do I hear? 2 guys calling nonstop on a diaphram call then talking 20 seconds later They walked out the whole way calling and talking Free education for the turkeys I guess

I moseyed back towards my car and met them in the parking lot. They had seen the birds in the field (all jakes).

I turned and went back down the road and moved as quietly as possible to wait out the darkness and hopefully hear flyup and gobbles.

I also ran into a local on the private property my buddy is hunting season A and I am hunting Season E. We had a nice chat and I was able to figure out another area that the birds like to roost on the property ;)Unfortunatly he has not seen a lot of longbeards in the area. We will know shortly
