Mitch and Dad score a double

Recommended Posts

Late last night Mitch and I headed out agian to try for a couple coyotes and that's what we got. We've hunted the last couple of nights but haven't seen much. I hunted Thursday night and only called in a Gray. Had to pass since the season was closed. Didn't hear a howl. Friday night called in a Red and had to pass on that one too. Then we headed to Minnesota to hit a couple spots and I called a coyote in on one of our better spots but it came from the neibors yard to the West of me. It stopped for a second and I got on it but was waiting for it to get farther out in front of us so Mitch could get a shot and for some reason it just bolted across the field to the North and never stopped for a shot. My mistake.

So last night we decided to stick closer to home.

1st set we went across the road from the house and had one howl back about 1/4 mile North of us. Then a couple lit up to the West and then another group to the East behind my house. Never could get that North dog to come in. Didn't help the neibors came home at midnight just after I got them to howl, then proceeded to sit and chat in their garage for another 1/2 hour.

2nd set we headed to the West as we had a piece of property 1 mile away. Started with some howls and had one sound off across the road to the East and a couple more chime in to the NW of us 1/2 mile away. I gave a few distress sounds then howled a bit for the next hour with nothing showing. Mitch was on my left as we're facing West and the caller and decoy are to the NW of us. I whisper to Mit if we should pick up and he says let's sit quietly for a while longer. We're there 10 minutes longer when I look out and see one coming in from the West. Then another following. I let Mit know and we both get ready. I'm on the one on the right and I keep asking if he's on one and he's not. This goes on a couple times then mine heads to the left now we have to switch but he finally says he's on his now. I tell him to shoot on a three count. I count and when I hear his gun go off I let mine bark, mine drops and I look up to see his make a 20 yard run and it goes down in a heap. What a sight. A few high fives and we collect our double. He shot a giant male and I got the female. Both looked real good, no rub marks or mange. We hit two more spots but had no takers. This might be the end of our hunting for the year, seemed to be a bit tougher this year to call them in but we did pretty well. Here's the pics from last night.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
