Gps purchase advice

Dozer

Question

Im looking at repalcing my H20c. Right now the Lowrance XOG is at the top of my list but Im looking for opinions on what I should get. I use it for both driving and fishing so it must be compatable with a lakemaster chip. I just bought a 09 navionics chip for my H20 so it would be nice if I could keep using that chip but if there is anougher gps is much better i would consider buying a new chip to make it work. The Gps will also have to have road navigation capabilities. I also do alot of 4wheeling so it must have trail mapping capabilities too. I would also like it to be atleast water resistant if not water proof.

Like I said Im leaning tward the XOG but is there something better?

Here is a little tip for rigging Garmin RAM mounts to a Vexilar Pro or Vexilar Ultra pack case.

On the more road, marine, and trail worthy RAM mounts they have the ball base systems...right...well you can order a "Pin Style Ball Base" that will fit into the rod holder receiver in the Vexilar case. It will be a threaded pin/bolt on the ball but with a Teflon Nut and a couple of flat washers you can quickly adapt it to the Vexilar pin base.

With the addition of the 12 V power accessory receiver add on to the Vexilar Pro or Ultra Pack that I have recommended in the past for adding on the Vexilar case, you now have a very solid, secure, an accessible GPS mount on the case and virtually unlimited power to run it or charge it.

As the ball mounts are interchangeable, you can go from the clamp on handlebar ball mount on the ATV, to the boat base receiver mount, or to the dash, with the same ball system and different base's. It adds a lot of end user options at a lower end user cost. The ball base's are relatively inexpensive, around $17. The main RAM Garmin receivr will vary in cost by unit, but $45 is a good point to budget from.

Power receiver runs about $8, Garmin 12 V power cords range fro $30 to $40 for most units.
