4lb, make it a sport just like in the summer when your out on Mille Lacs in early June and bobber fishing the rocks with your favorite ultra-light rod. I do..... it's a gas, and proves just how good you are....... Try it.

Sorry, I thought you were asking about Ice fishin, my suggestion still stands, and you never mentioned what kind of presentation you are doing. Bobber in the rocks, ultra-lite, 4lb test back off the drag and improve your skills, like I said make it a sport....

Well you know my bobber fishin line choice, I guess if I Lindy it's 6lb, and crank the rocks I go 8lb, I have never been much of a Jig guy let me check with my bubby who swears by the, but funny he never sends any fish pics caught on jigs....

What Lake? that may change all of your thinking...

Just my thoughts

I have never been a River Rat, but My guess there is an abrasive resistant type of line, with all the [PoorWordUsage] in the river. On Mille Lacs you could go 6lb Trilene Green for your all around all purpose line and never have an issue. It all comes down to the type of fishing, presentation, and area your working. There are some great websites that take each of these situations into account, and show many sources.GL

River-Runner,

I use 4-6 # Trilene on my lindy fishing, utilize 6# fireline or a similar braid when jigging, I like the 4# mono on a slip bobber rig. try to stay as light test as possible, especially on heavy pressured fish!

10 pound braid with a flourocarbon leader tied to a small swivel. I like the braid for many reasons, it's smaller so there is less water resistance, in cloudy water it dosen't matter, the sensitivity is beyond mono or flouro, it last forever and is more UV stabil than mono and it sinks so you have less line out.

Just make sure your rod choices or fishing style work with braid, cuz it's not the same as mono.

I like the gamma for bass fishing but am not a big fan of the way it spools off of open faced 'walleye' reels (although it is good line). For this reason I go with my second favorite line, ole trustee triline - if it's bright and calm I try to stay in the 4-6lb range. If it's dark or if conditions are rough I go with 8 for everything.

I don't use mono anymore, I like the copolymer lines better.

I usually spool up with 8 lb line, but for clear water or spooky fish or light baits I drop down to 6 lb. I haven't been doing as much clear-water fishing the last few years so it's mostly been 8 lb.
