Lowrance Compatibility

I am looking into purchasing a used Lowrance LCX 16 CI. My question to you guys is if the unit itself is older than the Lakemaster chip that I want to put in it, is it going to work? The unit is probably older than 2004, and the chip is I believe 06-07. If it won't, what do I need to do? Let me know what you guys think! Thanks.

lowrance upgrades their units every 2 years. I may be wrong but it went 16, 19, 25, 27, hsd 7. so that unit is about 8-9 years old I think...

If I remember, it could take it back then but it was a little slower than the newer plotters. Lowrance has updates that should allow it to take the newer chips.

Hiya -

You should be able to use that Lakemaster chip, although you may need to download a SW upgrade, which is very easy to do. It was only last year's chip that wasn't backwards-compatible with some older units. I could upgrade my X-25c to run the new chip, but not my X-17, for example.
