vanhea20
My wife and I are thinking about getting a popup this spring. We are thinking a Palomino because they seem to be less expensive than other brands. Does anyone have any feedback or opinions on why this is or what brand would be best to buy. eyemaster
I would not go on price alone. Palominos have been around for a long time, but I don't think they are the highest quality. I would look around and see if you could find a good used one. I like the Jaycos, Colemans and Starcraft brands.
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Good advise eyemaster and I agree totally. We had a Palamino that we bought new several years ago. It was ok, but I would buy something else if I were buying again. I also would buy used, not new.
Hafnutz
If I remember correctly, Palomino used a vinyl coated fabric that didn't breath. If they still do, be ready for a shower inside on a cold morning.
zamboni
We have a Rockwood, its 21 years old and looks like its new. The original canvas is still in it, and I know this because the manufacturing dates stamped inside. This says something both for the previous owners taking care of their things and what I consider a well built camper. Everything works as well- heater, fridge, etc. We bought it when the Bush admin sent out those stimulus checks, we looked at a Coleman before we bought the Rockwood. The Coleman had an 8 foot box, our Rockwoods 12 foot. The Coleman had an ice box and no heater. As above, the Rockwoods got a fridge and a heater. The Colemans canvas had holes and duct tape on it, our Rockwoods didn't. The Coleman was newer, but the same price. I think we made the right decision, even in the summer the furnace gets used, it gets chilly in pop ups at night. One thing I will say is make sure you have the seller set it up and take it down a couple times so you make sure both you know how to do it, and everything works. If they want the sale, and don't have anything to hide, they will do that for you.
minndonn
We had a coleman 8 ft that we bought in 88. The main things that swayed me to coleman is the one piece door instead of the two piece door. THis works much better plust the camper door swung down to be a nice big step. That is the best thing about the coleman along with being well built. I have used it in all seasons. Some models do not have the swingdown door but I beleive it is an option. It came without a furnace but I put one in. If I bought another it would be a coleman.
