I have some dull blades now on my auger and was wondering what you guys do.Do you find someone to sharpen them and get new ones to rotate or do an exchange somewhere? I have a 6" lazer and 8.25" chipper

quijibo, it is going to be real hard if not impossible to find replacement blades for that auger. Unless the blades are damaged beyond repair they can be sharpened. Problem there is you won't have a spare set. Keep your eyes open for a used SM 8" or 10" drill with chipper blades or buy a new laser drill and put that on your powerhead.

If you want to get by real cheap mount a mora 8" drill to the powerhead.

Will my Mora 7" hand auger fit on my powerhead? It is too hard to drill that thing by hand with the chinese blades on it, I might as well get some use out of it.

I am also watching for a good deal on an 8 or 10 inch Lazer unit. They have 8" Lazer units on a large auction site for $135 with shipping, I think I can beat that with a little patience.

I am going to visit a local sharpening shop today that was suggested by local person that has used them. I am a little concerned though because it will only take one mistake and I'll have an expensive paperweight.

Sutty, I am not in the cities, I'll give D-rock a call. I'd be surprised if they had blades for an auger that SM can't get blades for.

If the blades are not serated which it looks they are not you should be able to use the Mora hand sharpener for the hand augers to sharpen the blades. That is unless there are large nicks out of them.

I dropped them off at a local sharpening shop, $15 for three blades. I won't have them until next weekend though. I'm still planning on fishing on Sunday since there's nothing worth watching on TV.

I get mine sharpened for a very old man that does the best job EVER! He sharpens the chipper blade and the point of the drill itself! He always says 5 bucks but I always throw him 10.... He is in St. Paul Park if your nearby?

I just bought a new lazer auger and am scared of how sharp that thing is...could easily hurt one of the kiddies pretty badly if a guy forgets to put the cover back on.

I can only assume most new augers are that way.

You could shave with the lazer its so sharp! Even a dull cutting lazer will cut you badly. The flaw here is that you cant sharpen them...! Makes me a little mad. However I did sharpen my chipper blade today with a couple of files. Can't wait to rip some holes tomorrow!
