FL8 only shows green lights sometimes

mixxedbagg

Question

Sometimes my FL8 only displays the green lights. I'll be fishing and the red & orange will either fade out or disappear altogether. It doesn't seem to be related to any particular weather condition or level of battery charge. The Vex is still usable, but it is significantly more difficult.

What might be causing this and how can I fix it?

Thanks.

Does turning up the gain effect it when this occurs? Are you confidant the ducer is working properly? May wish to swap out a ducer with a friend and see if it is shorting out and his works well on your unit. Check the connection to the head unit well, clean the pins if needed.

If not, than it may very well be a case of worn or dirty brush's, or the bearing shorting out in the display. You can clean the brush's yourself or send the unit in to Vexilar for a tune-up and clean.

My fl-18 started doing something similiar late last year...i replaced the ducer (the other one was cut by the line anyway) and now this year...I really have to turn the gain up then it will work and all of sudden come on strong then turn it down and the green comes and goes fading in and out...I too am thinking a brush kit but was also looking at the trying to clean them myself...
