Seen something similiar for sale at Northern for $500-600. Wonder how durable they are?

My dad tells me stories of my grandpa who made one many years ago. Sounds really similiar to what the OP made although his was mounted high atop his barn.

Seen a few on top of private LOW sleepers.

Maybe this is a dumb questions, but still like to know. Could the 12v battery run the inverter then have that inverter run a battery charger, then have the battery charger charge the battery?

Exactly but the charger on a second battery and the inverter would have to be pretty big (lots of watts) to run a battery charger.

No. This is not possible. The inverter would draw more power then it puts out. You will lose current through resistance and heat. Eventually the battery would go dead.

Could that be done with just one battery to keep it recharging it self and also have it supply power to acccessories?

What's consider lots of watts? 400? 1000?

you would have to look at your charger it will be on it. The battery would not keep up with the inverter and charger would be my guess. Most of the newer inverters have a shutoff and warning when the battery is getting low and it would shut itself down. I am still guessing you would need a big inverter to run a good battery chaget ... probably 1000-2000 watt for sure. I see your idea but I dont think the battery could keep up... now 2 batteries and I know it will work.

Maybe you could use a 20" box fan as a wind generator to run a 12V charger. If its not windy enough to charge using the wind you plug a second box fan into a inverter to supply wind for the first box fan which does the charging.
