Any red dot .22 pistol owners out there

Recommended Posts

Thinking of getting a red dot for my .22LR semi-auto pistol. If anything its for fun and to make an accurate gun more accurate for me. I dont want something too big or bulky but rather the smaller like a burris or pentax. Any thoughts? Gun is a S&W 22A and I love it.

I've got a S&W 22S ... put a DOCTER on it ... that was probly 10yr ago ... never been the least bit unhappy with it. I think it's Trijicon that sells 'em in the U.S., now. They use a different material in the "window" that don't distort the dot, and resists scratches real well. Generally $100+ 'er so more than the competition.

A buddy has used a C-More and has been very happy with it. If I was gonna step-down from the DOCTER, it'd be to a C-More. I don't think it's less quality ... jest a bit bulkier ... nothing like a 40mm BSA ... but bigger envelope than the DOCTER. Never did see who sells 'em with the smaller dots, though ... Midway's are like 7moa or something.

Sig Sauer and Bushnell market a knock-off of the little Aimpoint for about half the price ... I wondered about those. The Aimpoint wouldn't be bad, 'course ... but I think I'd rather go with the DOCTER.

From there, it gets purdy ugly purdy fast.

FWIW, that DOCTER's really made the rounds (heh) ... it's found it's way onto my Xtrema ... my 6.8 AR ... on the side of my R15 (that didn't work at all, so that was only like 30 seconds). Anyhow, while it costs more, it also gets used a lot more.

Mud:

Have the same pistola and put a Famous Maker (cheap) red dot on it which I acquired from a gun show. Thought about upgrading it but never did. It has worked fine. I just don't use it all that much otherwise would have considered investing in a better one. It mainly gets a paper workout at the indoor range or when Pdogging I will shoot black birds or these pesky critters.

I ended up ordering a Pentax HS20 red dot. I've had really good luck with my pentax binos so I figured for $50 I might as well give it a shot. The Burris looks nice but was $150 more. Considering I got the gun for 200 it seemed pricey for a plinker.

I'm all balled up on this one. After I read my own post, it didn't sound right so I looked. The pistol is a Browning 5.5 target and the red dot is a Tasco. I have Burris glass on everything else I own but this one is a Tasco. Sorry about the mix-up.

So i had to do some tooling to the sight to get it to fit my rail. No biggie. Nothing a half hour with the Dremel tool couldn't handle. The kicker was that I got to the range, took a few shots and couldn't help but think the dot was not where it should have been after each shot. It seemed to be jumping all over. Then.......the glass fell out! It had nothing to do with my tooling cause it was obvious it wasn't "glued" in properly. I sent it back and have another one on order. Guess I'll have to check the glass before I "tool" the next one. Guess I got what I paid for frown
