Found the Geese

i was driving around on sunday for the last day of pheasant season and i couldn't belive it when i saw a small flock of geese flying south. Im in the sw mn area

theres thousands of geese that never leave western and sw minnesota all winter.

As long as they can find open water and food, they will stay. Geese dont leave because of the cold, they leave because they lack access to water and food.

We still have some mallards around here in Hastings because they have open water and are still finding food. The parking lot of the local grain mill usually has a couple hundred mallards sitting in it eating waste grain off the train tracks.

Heck we still have a couple thousand mallards around Hastings here.

There are a few mallards, geese and swans using open water up here in Bemidji/Cass Lake area.

did they ever really come through, I don't recall ever seeing a real migration this year, other then the 5 pickups following 1 flock of about 100 across sherburne co.

yesturday saw about 300 swans resting in the feilds north of the mississippi near Monticello. first thing the wife said was look at the snow geese I had to laugh as I explained what snows vs swans looked like. No she doesnt hunt for waterfowl whew....
