Sea Nymph 1
I'm thinking of adding heat to my garage and have been reading the posts regarding condensation. Where is the condensation forming and what is it from? My walls aren't insulated but my attic is, will this be a problem for ice dams? I'd keep the temp in the 40's unless I was working there. BobT
Ice dams aren't caused by condensation inside your building. Ice dams are caused by snow melting on the roof because the roof is warm due to heat from underneath. Then the water runs down to the eve. Since the eve is outside the heated area of the building it is cold relative to the rest of the roof and so the water freezes before it can run off the edge. This builds up over time and can begin to trap the liquid water, which starts to back up under the shingles. I would imagine that heating an unfinished garage could very easily create a problem. DRH1175
If you are only going to heat the garage when you are working you will be fine. If you plan on heating it all the time I really would insulate the walls. Not because of ice dams but because your heat will be going through your walls and it will hurt in the pocket book! Is your garage door insulated? If not that will kill you also.

If Eve gets to cold because she's standing under the eave let her come in and warm up.Sorry Bob but I couldn't pass it up.

She should wear AA
