hand line poles

I have several, will usually bring one as a backup.

I also have a pair that are basically just 2' dowels with an ice pick at one end. These are on the wall in my garage along with an original Jon-E hand warmer, a single mantle (Red) Coleman lantern and a Swedish spoon - All mounted display style to an old toboggan.

They are all antiques, most of them are hand-me-downs and/or rescued from the junk pile. I have used all of them at some point or another in my years of fishing.

Hey I want that, it would finish off my collection I had passed on to me from my uncle, old school steel rods, antique ice rods and tip ups, real bamboo cane poles, and flyrods which ALL will never see the water again. You have a great looking page from the past. I still use the "Ice pick style" dead sticks.

Thanks Super crew, a lot of that stuff in that display is third generation, where I scavenged from my dad's scrap pile, who had scavenged from HIS dad's scrap pile when HE was a kid! Everything there still works (Well, arguably the Jon-E never really worked) but has passed now from usefulness to nostalgia.

It brings a smile to my face whenever I pull into the garage after a long day at work.

If I'm using spikes/waxies, I use my 'custom' jiggle sticks with spring bobbers in any depth of water. Since I use spinning tackle exclusively otherwise, I've modified my jiggle sticks so the line pins are facing down. This required the addition of a rod guide facing sideways to allow for the line coming around to the new 'top'.

For crappie minnows, or if I'm jigging for walleyes I use a spinning rod.

If you fish outside as much as I have been (hate my fishhouse, only use it when necessary) reels are more of a pain in the poor word usage than they're worth.
