Question

Starting yet another fish house project. This is a new design that I thought of for getting a little more room inside the house (it may already out there, but have not yet seen it). The finished wheel wells measure 4ft.-6in. long by 34in. high. It is a 6,000# system w/12" brake drums, floor measurements are: 8'X16' w/4' v-front. Components that are fully removable are: Winches w/straps, leaf springs, pulleys, drop hitch, the full axle assembly. The total width (from outside wheel to wheel) measures 8'-4". Total length of house with the v-front is 20'. The pivot arm tubes are made of solid 2-1/2" steel with grease fittings.

I hear ya. The addiction never does go away does it! Your frame looks awesome triple B! Keep the photos coming so I can steal some ideas!

Some day, I hope to have my metal shop, and some day I hope to build a road worthy frame myself. I know I can do it, I just lack the tools and the facilities. Keep inspiring and tempting the rest of us addicts!

I really like your setup,I was wondering if you have some more close ups, cause im not seeing what the pin attaches to on the wheel assembly? I see the brackets on the frame where the pin goes through.

I think you crank the wheel down until you can slide the pin in and then put a little slack in the strap. The pin sits on top of the bar, not through it. Or maybe a better way to say it is that the pin holds the bar in the down position by trapping it in the bracket.

minnbowhunter, ya tahts kind of what i thought to, but from what i see in order for that to happen, it looks like the main steel isnt long enough to accomplish this? could be jsut me, hopefully he has a picture of it in driving postisiton.

Also, on the 2.5" pivot arms, how are those attached to the frames?

I believe that the pin goes through the leaf spring mount, not on the pivot arm. I dont see how the pivot is attached to the frame. I was going to try to remove the studs from a hub and weld a pivot arm to it on my house but never got around to it. no seized pivots.

I will be posting more pics of the house later. We are finishing up all the siding right now, and then having it spray foamed.

The bar above the leaf spring is just for the strap to attach to to crank it up. The leaf spring goes through an opening in the vertical square tube to allow movement in the suspension. The shakle also moves, it is not tight. After you crank it up far enough for the shackle to line up, you put the pin in and take the strap off along with the winch. Put the winch in the house for travel, so it stays nice and clean, not getting all the junk from the roads all over them. I can post some closer shots of the suspension when I get home.

Here is a closer pic of the arm assembly.

The 2-1/2" solid is a stub that goes through holes in the frame just large enough to set the camber and toe settings for wheel alignment. It is approximately 24" in length, and welded to cross members in the frame also. The grease fitting is in the arm assembly where it slides on the stub shaft. I will have to take pics of the exact location and post them. I looked through my pics, and couldn't find one of that.

Thanks for that pic! Would it be to much of a hassle to get measurements on that last picture? Like of those two vertical bars, and the size of leaf spring. you're helping me out so much! can't wait for the others!

looking good! so how do you secure the wheel assembly to the 2.5" solid steel?

The wheel assembly has round tubing welded inside of the square tubing. The assemble slides on the tube, and is held in place by a sleeve and a grade 8 bolt w/lock nut. The bolt is through both the sleeve and the solid round.

We had the stubs machined to fit the round tube. The solid round also has channels ground into them for the flow of grease to go around evenly to prevent seizing.

You asked about the grease fitting before. The fitting is located in the round tube that is welded in the square tubing in the pivot arm. The fitting can be accessed at the end of the square tubing.
