DNR STOCKING?????

There's also the Horseshoe/Sauk Chain.

The next step will be the "official posting" followed by pubic hearings this summer. We're going to need all of you and your fishing partners to turn out of these. Poor turnout has been our weakness in the past. We're all going to benefit from these either directly or indirectly so plan on it right now. You'll be giving up 1 day of fishing for a new opportunity you can enjoy for the rest of your life.

I'll be writing and e-mailing and talking to and doing whatever I can to try and get South Long stocked. Aaron, do you have any advice on who to get ahold of, even this early in the process? I'd love to see that lake stocked, It's a large enough chunk of water with a lot of sweet structure. It could really be a fun lake to chase fish on.

Bronzeback, if you're able to go to the Brainerd Lakes Muskies, Inc. meeting on Tuesday, January 12th, there will be more information available shared that night. As of a month ago, there was maybe going to be something happening this month with that. But nothing was official yet. Tim Brastrup with the Brainerd Area Fisheries is who proposed it. He would be able to tell you for sure who any contacts are or when any key dates are in this process (when they're determined). Members of the Brainerd chapter are in contact with Tim as well and will be passing on any new info at the monthly meeting on the 12th.

thanks for the info. Unfortunately I won't be able to make the meeting on the 12th because I'll have to be back up in Duluth by then, but I do know a few of the members of the Brainerd chapter so I should be able to contact them for some more information. I've talked with a few people I know that own property on the lake and they're in love with the idea, so I'm hoping they'll be able to spread the good word and get the wheels turning on this thing. I'd really love to see a lake a little closer to Brainerd, especially one with this kind of forage base and abundance of weeds/structure.

if you need it Shawn I may have 1 lol, aside from that one lake were going to need help on all 5, as you've probably noticed from the Tetonka and a few other threads they are really pushing to "Ban" Muskie Stocking.

I'm still waiting to hear a substantial or relevant reason reason for their sentiment other than they see it as a bargaining chip to use for the ability spear within the slot or to spear the designated Muskie lakes that they openly admit "Having Muskies present takes away their pleasure of spearing" because they cant legally throw at it(So much for look and release huh), even to the point where some are discounting lakes like Leech, Winnie and Big V just to get people to believe they cannot spear on them because they have Muskie.

If you want a Muskie Program its not up to Muskies Inc or any person its up to the multitudes of you anglers

I didn't mean to make it sound like I won't do what I can to help with the other 5. More muskie opportunities around the state would be a great thing-disseminating the pressure on some lakes could make the state's fishery as a whole much more enjoyable for all of the anglers out there. And who knows where I'll end up in 5 to 10 years, I could be hundreds of miles from South Long and never get a chance to see a fish over 40 out of that lake if it actually does end up being stocked.

The only reason I've put so much importance on that lake is because I have long-standing ties with that body of water. It was the first lake I got out on without my dad or my grandpa driving the boat and really went out there and learned "how to fish". I've fished there every summer for the last 8 or 9 years (probably more) and I've got a lot of good memories on South Long and would love to make a few more.

I really didn't mean to make it come off like that Bronze, my apologies, I sure hope your able to be there for the first bunch to be released.

These new candidates are very very good lakes with plenty of forage and structure.

See ya at the public input meeting.

Chris, what are you thinking in terms of NW? There's not a lot to choose from in the extreme NW part of the state. Many Points Lake is a new lake that was added and received its first stocking in 2006. They've broken the state into different regions and want to add lakes in each region. But Many Points might be as NW as we'll get unless there's some other viable options in the NW corner...but I can't think of any off hand...pretty void of water when you start getting up that way too much.
