Last year a buddy and I left some gear on the ice in Iowa. 3 hours later we made it home and realized our error. My friend returned the next day (to post signs) and found a bucket with a note in it from the guy that found his gear. They hooked up and my friend got his gear back (including a Lowrance ice machine, 2 ipods, and all of his tackle).
