Morson/Miles bay conditions?

Recommended Posts

went up yesterday afternoon and went for a cruise with my dad. We put on about 70 miles, made a swing thru Sabaskong around Blueberry up to the south tip of Hay Island. There was about some guys fishing just east of Hay when I come by but I didnt stop. went up by Obabikan bay into the south end of Miles then made our way over towards Gooseneck. Only found one wolf kill and there wasnt much left other than a couple leg bones and some hide. Little rough out in the open but the snow isnt hard drifted yet and yes there is spots of slush here and there. Not sure how deep it was. no big pressure ridges yet but that can change in a matter of seconds. plenty of snow made for a fun ride. can really cruise along. Slush isnt as bad as it was last year about this time but then again its probably only gonna get worse with all this snow on top. hope to get up there again soon.

Went up Wednesday, home early Sunday.

Can you say cold? It was 32 below Saturday morning and 36 below Sunday morning and we hit 40 below (F) at one point on the way home near Emo! Scary cold.

Walleye fishing was pretty slow, but only fished a couple hours Thursday and a couple Friday. Only small fish and not many. Couple barely keepers, but my almost four-year-old Abby did catch a couple! She seems to like ice fishing!!! Didn't bother to go out Saturday, just too cold for me.

There's about 6-10 inches of snow on the ice, maybe 12 in the woods. A solid 12-14 inches of ice out of Morson. I hit zero slush and only one small ice ridge. The drifts on the lake are getting hard and bumpy.

Back up in two weeks. Hope it warms up by then but it's not looking good for the next week.

Take care all. Happy 2010!

I leave for Morson in 4 hours. WOHOO!!! This will be my first trip up since December and there was't quite enough ice then for me to feel safe. I have never, and will never, be the first sled tracks on the lake. I'll post my findings on Monday as well. Good luck this weekend WT!

Wow! No big fish but lots of eaters.

What a great weekend. 35 degrees Friday and Saturday. That's 70 degrees warmer than two weeks ago!

Great trip for numbers of walleyes. We caught them on the reefs, best in 15-17 feet. All sorts of jigging spoons, chubby darters, etc.

I caught a doz on the first day while my buddy 100 yards away caught 20. But I also got a big 36-inch pike! Fun.

Next day was better for me, caught about 20, biggest was 17.

We didn't see a single other fisherman and only a couple snowmobilers. We seemed to have the whole lake to ourselves.

(Another buddy hit Whitefish Bay and caught 4 big lakers with is little boy. Said there was a lot of people fishing up there.)

We ate our meal of walleye and brought a few home and a good time was had by all!

About 18 inches of ice now and snow on the lake ranges from just a couple inches to 18-inch drifts.

Back up in a few weeks!

Take care all.

See above. WT nailed it. BEAUTIFUL weekend. Only fished for about 5 hours Saturday. Caught a couple nice eaters and quite a few fries. Fished 16 feet of water off rubble shore line and used a pearl white jig head.

Terry Gill plowed a road from the marina out to the red markers on Friday. Saw a pickup on the ice that blazed it's own trail Saturday, otherwise it was all sled traffic. Not many fisherman around sabaskong but I saw a lot of fisherman coming and going from whitefish.

Spent most of the weekend honing my skills on the snow machine. Vidoes will be on sale soon. Be back up in Feb. I just hope the weather is as nice.

Finally got back up to the island! Great trip, great conditions, not so great fishin but fishing was secondary purpose of trip (hard to believe). Enough for fantastic fish fry

Nothing you could call slush as of Saturday AM but came back in some pretty good rain and 1/4" of ice on gear so not sure what it's like today. Temps to drop this week so should be fine by next W/E.

Maybe a REAL fishing trip next week!
