merkman
Would this be legal to ride on a snowmobile trail? If so what licences, passes, registratons, and or stickers would be needed? Thanks
Dave S
I will double check the reg's, but I think they state that a snowmobile must be of original manufacturer design.
Larson15
With all that work I would be mad if I couldn't!With all the laws we have I doubt that you will be able to though...
Dave S
I found this definition HERE :Subd. 3.Snowmobile."Snowmobile" means a self-propelled vehicle designed for travel on snow or ice steered by skis or runners.Personally, I would say that you'll have a tough time fighting this in court if your ticketed for riding a tracked ATV on a snowmobile trail. The original design is without a track or skis.
rcatcherman
I hate to say it but it will not pass on the state marked trails.
merkman
Personally, I would say that you'll have a tough time fighting this in court if your ticketed for riding a tracked ATV on a snowmobile trail. The original design is without a track or skis. It is the "designed" language that is very unclear. In this configuration it is designed for travel on snow or ice steered by skis or runners. But others may say it is modified for travel on snow or ice steered by skis or runners. So I am thinkng the first step is to try to register it as a snowmobile. If the state registers it as a snowmobile then it would be a snowmobile.I can't imagine a court saying it wasn't a snowmobile if the state registered it as one. Dave S
The best bet would be talk to the local Police Dept, Sheriffs Dept and Conservation Officer and see what their interpretation is.They all may have their own view on this. merkman
If they did then this vehicle would need 3 registrations. With skis on front wheels and tracks on back wheels - snowmobile registration. With tracks on front and back wheels - OHV registration. With wheels - ATV registraton. Add an Ag registration and you would be up to 4 registrations for this one vehicle. Hopefully the legislature gets this stuff figured out this year. hawkeye43
The state thinks they got it right the way its now, They are raping us and don't even think twice about it.
curt quesnell
I talked to the local trails guy about this very topic lastwinter. If your vehicle is track driven and has skis on the front it is ok to run on the state trails. You need the trailssticker and, of course the proper registration. The Atvs with 4 tracks are not good, but with skis on the frontit should be alright
Dave S
It's still better to err on the side of caution and talk to the "local" authorities.
