gas auger on elec. only lakes

Does this vary based on location? I read somewhere else that people cannot use gas augers on electric motor only lakes. I do not think it is true but would like other's input. Thanks.

Up here you can drive your truck, atv or sled and use a power auger all day long on "electric motors only" lakes.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but I personally asked the game warden and that is what I was told. (I asked him while at the landing on such a lake, and proceeded to ride my wheeler right out)

From what I understand you should be fine. The reason for electric only is so that the habitat is not disturbed by large motors ripping up the vegitation. You will be fine to use a gas auger.

I would have to believe that the electric only is only a summer time thing with regards to boat motors and does not apply to ice fishing.

It does apply to cars, not augers. At least Phalen in St Paul is like that. Might be a county thing. I just know you can't drive out on Phalen and it's an electric only lake.

Fished Mpls city lakes for years - never had a problem using gas augers.

I would personally love to have a super fast electric snowmobile or 4 wheeler to try out on these lakes.
