Jiffy Model 30 - Cutting Issue

My Jiffy Model 30 runs great but it has always bothered me that when it gets under any load (If I apply any pressure at all) the auger stops turning. I can only let the auger's own weight be applied to the cut. I would expect the thing to spin ME around with the power head rather than to stop turning.

Any ideas?

It really sounds like your clutch is slipping. I know on my old model 30 would throw you if it got stuck. The only other thing would be dull blades and if you hit those with a flat file just to be sure.

How can the clutch be adjusted?

I think that you will have to replace the clutch because it is worn out. I know that my dad was able to braze the inside of the clutch to make it grip better but he was good at welding and always repaired stuff.

you shouldn't have to nor should you put any weight on the auger.

Sounds like a pitch slash dull blade issue to me.

the older 30's dont have the torgue that the newer augers have so they spin a bit slower especially the 10" models.

This also might be your low and high speed adj. screws need some

tweaking on carb. I would think you could find which is which on the net . It sounds like the high speed is not kicking in.

Thanks. Each tooth on the blade is very sharp. Is the pitch adjustable? Clutch seems too complicated for now so I will see if I can get more RPMs by adjusting the high speed screw.

So it starts and runs great. How does it cut ice?

Hi Speed Carb adjustment. The clutch is not locking in because the RPMs are not being maintained.

Your probably a getting a little too much fuel. Start by turning your Hi speed adjustment in(clockwise). Do very little at a time.

Thanks Surface. I did just that this evening at the lake and buzzed through a dozen holes. Made a big difference (very touchy to set these high and low adustments though!).
