MagicMinnow, it all depends on if your Garmin takes a SD or a MicroSD card. If it does, it will work whether it is Nuvi automotive to a handheld. 90% plus work straight out of the box, while a few select Garmins require 1 or 2 settings to adjust.

If your Garmin does not take a memory card, then there is a Garmin MapSource option which allows Garmin users with MapSource (which most have) to load any of the TRAX maps into their MapSoure program and load it directly to the GPS. The only catch is does the GPS have enough memory. The other good news is for some of the versions with less memory, MNTRAX is broken up into different map layers so you don't have to load all elements such as roads could be left off, etc.

The last thing is if for some reason your GPS isn't compatible, then simply send it back for a full refund as Kirsch's Outdoor Products has a 100% money back guarantee. I should know as I am the owner of Kirsch's Outdoor Products and the creator of the TRAX series of maps.

I pulled a list from my HSOforum to help and keep in mind this is for the memory card version which is the most popular and the one I recommend.

If you are asking for river maps from a standpoint of depth contours, hazards, etc, the answer is no for the St. Criox River. The basic river paths for the majority of all rivers in Minnesota are included and the lake contours of over 1000 MN lakes but not river depth contours.

Kirsch - Been reading up on the MNTRAX product and it sounds great. I do have a few questions. I have both the older etrex legend (no chip) and the new colored etrex legend hcx (microSD) and use mapsource software with both. Would the disc/software version of MNTRAX also work with both of these units? If I went with the microSD card and only used it with the legend hcx, do my waypoints/routes save to the microSD card or internal memory on the unit? Could I plug the unit into my computer and be able to see the lake contours when I opened up mapsource? I like using mapsource to mark out spots/routes first and just transferring to the unit. Does the $20 upgrade charge also apply to the disk/software? I also posted in the hunting forum, but thought you may see this on first. Thanks.

MagicMinnow, actually I have more lakes than any other lake product that I am aware of but the focus is on the smaller lakes and not the larger lakes. I have the lakes the DNR has surveyed. I can't put the link in the reply but if you click on the MNTRAX link and then go to Minnesota and then click on Lakes, it shows you the lake list.

I provide an all-around sportsman map. As an example there is no other GPS map that has tax forfeit land in Minnesota, also section, township, and range information, and a complete hunting land coverage. It is an all-around map for the outdoorsman. A version will come out that have river maps if the Minnesota DNR begins to survey rivers. Considering the amount of different specialties the TRAX series of maps cover, I am dependent on many agencies including DNR, DOT, Forest Service, BLM, and many others including county agencies to pull together such an extensive set.

gators06,

I believe I answered your questions on a previous thread but in summary:

The eTrex Legend (non-HCx) does not have enough memory as it doesn't accept a memory card and only has 8MB of internal memory.

Your waypoints and trails are safe as they are stored in internal memory so the HCx memory card would work on that GPS.

The current version of MNTRAX - Mapsource will not allow editing or advanced viewing on the PC as it is a transfer mechanism only. I am looking at many other options including an integration to Google Earth as well as more in-depth Mapsource integration in the future.

$20 is the current price to update any of the 3 options Lowrance, Garmin or Garmin MapSource

  • we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators

The lakes maps are very similar in either chip unless it's an HD map.

The additional detail and information for land areas is what sets the MNTrax apart.
