It wont hurt to leave them in if you intend to go to the new styles. But if you want them out, if I remember correctly you just need to push some slack from the heater wires into the bars to allow them to slide out. If they are stubborn, you could drill a small hole in the end and put a screw in to pull them with. I havent seen the cartridge style in a long time but then again it is an older sled.

I'd switch to the newer kinds anyway simply because they use less wattage and it will be easier on your lighting coil.
