The_King48
Why does the clock keep running keep running when a player is tackled out of bounds? It has happened at least twice during the Vikes Bengals game in the second quarter!
james_walleye
If his forward momentum is stopped and he goes out of bounds the clock doesnt stop.
walleyeslammer
I too noticed it on Berrian's catch just before Favre's sneak before the 2 minute warning. That was a [PoorWordUsage] deal if you ask me and in reality it cost us a chance after the Bengals fumble to go for the endzone a couple times. I agree with James' assessment but on Berrian's catch that couldn't have been the case.
james_walleye
Outside 2 minutes in the first half the clock doesnt stop in any case if you go out of bounds. The rules are the clock will keep winding. Outside of 5 minutes in the 2nd half is the same case, the clock doesnt stop.
LMITOUT
I don't think that is the case.
james_walleye
Really don't care what you think. Outside of 2 minutes the clock winds as soon as the ball is set.....
LMITOUT
Nope.Palmer just ran out of bounds a little bit ago and the clock stopped. Ref's fault I suppose...
james_walleye
go read the rules warp minded one....
PierBridge
Not sure of the exact ruling but NO the referee's did not make any mistakes with the clock. James is fairly close if not right on there are circumstances where if the runner goes out of bounds the clock is started when the ball is set. It's been like this for years!Chock one up for James! LMITOUT
I agree that the clock keeps running, but I'm not sure why they stopped the clock when Palmer ran out of bounds.
james_walleye
I clock probably did stop, and then was wound when the official set the ball.....
PierBridge
I see what happened, on the Berrian play the ref did give him forward progress even though the defender pushed him out of bounds. So he was tackled in-bounds, technically, hence the clock continuing to run.The clock stops on every play that results in a player going out of bounds. They re-start the clock once they set the ball for play other than the numbers Jim posted toward the end of the game/half's.
