Car Starter Installation?

bgreen82

Question

so a couple months back i won a clifford matrix car starter in a raffle, but installation was not included(very dumb). i was gonna sell it cuz both our cars were leases, but my wifes is ours now and she wants it. someone at work said she could get me a deal on the install, but that deal was between $200 and $300. doesnt really seem like a deal to me. is there anywhere you can go to get an already owned starter installed at a decent price?

Wow! 200-300 doesn't seem like a deal to me, either. I don't know who to recommend except yourself. On many vehicles, installing a starter is quite easy. If you're anything of a DIYer, you may be able to save mucho $. Search the net for info, or spend $20 or so on a "Chilton's" manual or a "Haynes" manual for your (wife's) vehicle. It'll tell/show you how to do it. Good luck!

My wife had (and still has) one that was never used, still in the box. I opened up the manual because I wanted to do the installation. 63ihharvester4x4 is right, there is a lot of splicing into the ignition system. The job was out of my capabilities. I think that it is probably a 2 hour job for a pro so at $60-75/hour it should be $150-200 I would think at Best Buy or somewhere similar.

Oops! Now I realize that you're talking about a remote starter and not just a starter motor. I feel kinda dumb. I've looked into that and agree that it is NOT for the average DIYer. I agree that you should take it to a pro! Sorry for the bum advice earlier!

the reason why installation is expensive is cause there are usually more parts needed to install a remote start.. older vehicles like 2000 and older are pretty straight forward.. newer vehicles require transponders.. some cars and trucks require as many as 3.. usually they are like 30.00 each.. and if your car has a key that has a chip or is computerized anew key has to be made and ziptide under steering colum to bypass factory alarm system since many cars now the alarm system is tied into the radio!! so there is a reason why its expensive for installs.. thats why best buy used to say buy a remote start and free basic installation and most cases they would charge u an extra 200.00 or so bucks.. hope this helps

Not much help but....Might look into radio installers. I just bought one (with installation) for wifes car from a co-worker that owns a car radio shop. He will install what a person brings in but he isn't too happy about that, therefore the extra cost. frown His business is mostly radios but at this time of year remotes are Christmas presents so that is what he does.

Forgot to mention..$260 for remote and installation down here in Mo.
