sodajerk
The digital thermometer by the kitchen door reads -18.1 degrees, and it feels that cold outside. The deck boards were snapping and popping when I walked on them. Should be making some ice at that temp. I'm down in the valley here and it's usually a few degrees colder than the "official" temp reported around the area.On one of the threads here someone posted a chart that shows how fast ice forms at certain temps and thicknesses, but I can't find it now. Tried a web search too and came up empty. Can anyone direct me to that chart or repost it here, please?

sodajerk
ice chart I think this is what you are looking for. Thanks bigbad...I should have just searched the forum for "chart" but I was thinking it was a link instead of the actual chart posted. Thanks for finding that, I appreciate it. RebelSS
Wow! What a difference a few miles make! I had -3 in North Roch this AM...but my ol' deck boards were a poppin' night before last. Pepin has only about 3" of ice, or so I heard. Any reports on Zumbro ice yet?

RebelSS
jwhjr: Thanks..was wondering what sort of impact the recent dump of snow is going to have on area waters down here. Time to drive north!
sodajerk
Wow! What a difference a few miles make! I had -3 in North Roch this AM...but my ol' deck boards were a poppin' night before last. Pepin has only about 3" of ice, or so I heard. Any reports on Zumbro ice yet? This morning I drove from here to Red Wing, crossed the bridge into Wisconsin and drove down the Mississippi to Stockholm, WI.The (pretty darn accurate) built-in thermometer in the work van recorded the following temps in a 35 minute drive: -5 in Red Wing; -8 in Hager City, WI; -14 in Bay City, WI; -8 in Maiden Rock, WI; -7 in Stockholm. A coworker said it was -15 in Frontenac, MN, where he lives.Lots of variation, and the low spots were colder than it was on the hilltops.I didn't have a chance to check the ice on Lake Pepin, but there were visible cracks about 2 inches wide that had refrozen and weren't wet at all, so I'd estimate 3-4 inches minimum near shore on the Wisconsin side of the river.Oh, and btw, after I posted this thread, the thermometer dipped to -21 by the time I left for work. She was a little chilly this morning.
