Choke Canyon TX

I went there last year in March. We never got into any of the mosters but caught alot from 3 to 6lbs. We caught em any were there was a road bed or were there was bigger rock mixed in with the trees in anywhere from 3 - 10ft. the best thing we used for lures was big soft plastics with a light weight(1/8th was best). Lizards and ol monsters worked well as long as with some bigger 12-14in stuff we got down there.

I used to live in Austin and fished Choke a few times. We generally fished the south shore. We either put in at the South Shore landing and headed west, or put in at Callhan unit and drove NE around the big point to the islands. There are MASSIVE weed beds in that area and they hold a lot of fish. 8-15' deep. ALSO - Look for other boats!!! If you are all by yourself on that lake there is a reason and you will probably have a tough time of it. We struggled for the first day on our first trip until we got to that south shore area and there were boats everywhere!! That's where the fish were too. We hammered them! We fished soft plastics rigged weedless. Purple and watermelon were both good colors. I think that was the place we used to fish the Really big worms like 10" ones? Also a zoom super fluke would work good too. When we fished those we would rig them with a small piece of nail inserted in the base of the body to give it a little weight. Tie it directly on the line, no swivel, no slider. Then we would cast them way out and drift through those weed beds. The fluke can go through some amazingly thick stuff and stay clear.

GOOD LUCK!! Tim
