jwmiller33
one thing i forgot to mention in my post was interference. if you ever fish in a tournament, or even with a couple buddies of yours, chances of a vexilar or marcum being within interference range are pretty good. it is my understanding that vexilar and marcums run on the same frequency, while humminbirds run on a completely different frequency. the result of this is you not getting interference on a humminbird when your fishin in a portable next to your buddy's vex. both of you should be thankful for that. i definitely know there are more vexilars and marcums out there on the ice, which is completely fine by me, but that means i wont get interference from them
Fred_Bear
I think it would be fun to compare the flasher brand debates to the gas power auger brand debatesVexilar ---> JiffyMarcum ---> StrikemasterHummingbird ---> NilsSound about right?? jwmiller33
do you guys think vexilar and marcum are going to follow humminbird and come out with the flat screens? personally, i think its a great idea.. how many times do you get snow in the little ring around the screen on vexilars and marcums? its annoying to keep having to get the snow off the screen.also, i have a question for fellow ICE 35 bird owners. there are 3 inputs on the back of the unit. one is for the power, one for the ducer... whats the third one for??? Fred_Bear
I fish with all the Vex's next to my LX and other than the 12's we have had no problems with interference no matter the depth. We normaly fish from 6' to 25'. I never have a problem with interference all winter until I fish lakers. Fishing rock hard bottom in 40+ feet with 3 or 4 guys on the same point wreaks havoc on those machines. My FL-8 usually isn't too bad, but we've found out that mine is usually the culprit for giving others interference. They always yell at me to "Quit throwing cancer in the water". That's where I think a Hummingbird would be awesome.
bigbad401
The third input on the back of the ICE35 is for use at the factory, I believe. I would believe it to be an input for upgrading the firmware and/or a diagnostic port at the factory. I work at an electronics manufacturing plant and there are things like this put on boards all the time to make it easier to upgrade and/or fix. HaRdWaTeR jUnKy
have had my lx3 for three years now and love it, love the zoom and the fine line seperation, the digital charger is also a bonus! i was really thinking about picking up a bird 55 just to try it this season but once i turned the marcum on for the first time this season it brought back alot of good memories and decided to save some $$$ so i bought a new portable instead! nothing bad to say about vex they are still top of the line and i use my buddies all the time (they like to use my marcum becasue of the zoom anywhere in the water column)...dont really think you can go wrone with any of the flashers just test them out to figure out what bells and whistle you need or actually are going to use!
