Big Dave2
The sporting world is minuscule in the grand scheme of things. Turn off KFAN once in a while or read section A of the paper. Lots of things going on out there that are a weeee more important. For a guy like me that has been unemployed for almost 6 months, there is not much that is any more important than our local economy and anything that will put even more people out of work. croixflats
How would the new stadium affect Belle Plain employment?
Big Dave2
Do you think that I am looking only in Belle Plaine for a job? My job could come anywhere in the twin cities or be taken away from me by someone that WAS employed anywhere in the twin cities.
croixflats
Your right. Should have no worries with all the jobs the Gopher stadium and the Twins Stadium will generate. I think uou are right and the legislator should talk about the stadium. Not how to fund the stadium but what to do if there is no occupant for the stadium we all ready have and job regeneration for those that loose their job. And maybe some help for buisnesses to relocate or maybe the city can come up with a plan to attract people to that corner. Be alot cheaper than $950 million. Just some thoughts thrown out there. No stadium is not the end of the world.
croixflats
I understand your concerns and if we can get this economy under control things will be better for everyone. This past year was one of the worst years for me %50 sales down. I had to supplement by learning a new trade. Luckily I had a few freinds that were in the security gates/fencing trade that helped me out and their sales were down by wide margine also.point is a stadium is like a stimulous package creates work for a short period and a select few bennifit when all said and done compareitvly to the hole state.Legislator should be focussing on job creation state wide not just a small sector in the big city. Scott K
How about the thousands of people that are employed by the Vikes, the Dome, or are waitresses and, bartenders, over priced parking lots, bars, ect, if the Vikes leave, all of them people will be out of work, drwing unemployment, which we pay with our tax dollars. LMITOUT
We're talking eight games a year here, plus a few meaningless preseason games. The Vikings are not a year-long draw of fans and their money to the metro. Sure, it's a nice bump to those businesses during this time of year, but they aren't going to employ extra people all year long just because of 10 weeks of FB games. I mean really in the great big scheme of life, it's not really THAT big of a deal. Is it any wonder how the clowns in D.C. have no clue and no desire to make HARD DECISIONS with how to solve a major issue like the economy and health reform. You are minimilizing and not taking into consideration the big picture here. It doesn't matter how many games they play, the yearly multi-million dollar loss to our local economy is still the same.
