Howa Hogue 7MM

Looking at buying a Howa 7MM , but haven't heard much about them. The few things I have heard are they rival the Weatherby with much less cost. They come with the NIKKOR scope which is suppose to be a decent scope. Anybody out there that can give me some insight on this gun? Thanks,

Bought the Howa/Hogue model in 223 including the Nikko Sterling scope. GREAT GUN! Feels, looks and shoots fantastic. Same gun as Weatherby except no humpback stock. You'll like it. Thinking of another in a "deer cartridge" for beating around in the truck out West.

Howa has a pretty long history in thier production of rifles. Smith & Wesson put thier name on them in the early 80's for a few years as the 1500 then they went to another brand that I can't remember and kinda fell off the radar screen except for the availiabilty of thier actions. Then Howa is back now. When I had my FFL (pre Klintonism) I sold a ton of those S & W's and they were shooters!!!! However, the triggers were pretty creepy, rough & heavy. My son has one (S & W) in .270 & 7MM and I have one in 06 but, I had the trigger replaced with a Timney. If a guy was blindfolded I'm not sure they could tell the difference in working the Vanguard and Howa action. They are extremely smooth and fast. I looked at the current production & if I was in the market for a new gun I buy a Howa.

They also made the weatherby vangards for years before going out on their own about 10 years ago.

My son has a 1500 in .308 and a buddy has on in 30-06. Both are accurate functional guns.

Mossberg where the ones that put thier stamp on em after Smith & Wesson. Took me long enough to think of that, huh?

One other thing I remember about the Smith & Wessons, the 1500 was a classic stock where the 1500 DeLux had the cheek piece. The DeLux was "selected" wood and really had some beautifuly grained walnut.

If that Howa is even remotely close to my vanguard I would buy one in a heart beat. I love the action on my Vanguard it is so smooth

Thanks for the input everyone. I thought it was a pretty good gun. I ended up buying a 7MM Howa with the Hogue stock with a Nikkor Nighteater scope. Great price on a great package from Reeds in Walker. I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

Elwood, if ya ever have a chance to work the action on a Howa I know you'll be impressed. Just last week I was in the "C" store and asked about Remington Model 7's. (I'm thinking about another one in .308) All they had was the 700 in with the 18 1/2 barrel. I worked the action and it felt like I was rubbing two Schlitz cans against each other. I handed it to my bud and asked to see a Howa then told my bud to work it. His eyes almost popped out.

this summer I will probally look for a Howa in .308 as well then I will pass down my winchester in .308 to my son. althou he loves his sinle 243

If the new Howa's are anything like the 1500 Lightning you're gonna love that .308. All it does is shoot where you point it.

i bought a nikko stirling nighteater scope for my 22-250 and like it so far; bought it because of looking at them on the howas and guy at scheels along with other reviews i read being all positive about the Nikkos
