Vex Ultra Pack modification

Loon

Recommended Posts

I have my flasher mounted on an Ultra Pack and have added the flex light option.

I love the external posts for charging and tapping power from the battery, but hate the alligator clips for hooking up the flex light.

I think I understand why there is a "master" power switch, but I'd rather have that switch dedicated to the flex light so I gutted the wiring of the Ultra Pack and did just that.

I fish 5 nights a week so my flasher is either in use or being charged all winter. I'm sure I'll get tired of unhooking the battery after the season so the battery gauge doesn't draw during storage, but not as tired as I've gotten of the alligator clips.

I think a second switch where the vex symbol is would be a nice improvement so you could retain the "master" switch and have one for the flex light. I guess I could've installed a rocker or toggle but I didn't want to butcher the pack. Who knows? Maybe if I get burned by not having a "master" switch I'll have to add a second.

Anyway...just throwing it out there because I know some of you guys probably have the same gripe about the flex light and we all seem to be running out of ways to stay busy while we wait for ice.

If you want me to talk you through it, gimme a shout.

Switch, yes!! You could try a micro toggle switch or rocker, The toggle lever is only a 1/4" long, that would only take drilling a 1/2" hole or maybe a dremel would work to cut out a nice clean rectangle for the rocker. I know what you mean with the alligator clips. I replaced mine on the battery charger and battery ends with a 2 wire pigtail disconnect for simplcity. you just have to figure out which wire is pos. and neg. on your charger wire.
