mnhunter79
So, i put my trail cam back out last sat night after hunting.(6 new "C" cell batteries). checked on it tues after work. Low battery light was on . And when it was 70 degrees at night it lasted 2 months! So instead of buying 6 batteries every 3 days, i figured i would get the 12 volt battery kit. Anyway, i looked at one at the store, thought to myself i could prob. make one of these. I have about 4-5 of the vexilar 12 volt batteries and 2 of the plugs that plug into the camera. Got home, dug out the battery, and the wires. hooked every thing up and installed a inline fuse to be safe. Well ,evidentally the fuse was too big (15 amp). plugged it in and heard a POP and it smelled like it was on fire. OH *^%#, i was certain i fried my trail cam. So, i took the whole thing apart to hopefully find a fuse that had blown, no such luck. Put it all back together, installed C cell batteries, and im thanking my lucky stars that it still works. LESSON LEARNED!! Do you think i fried the 12 volt portion of the cam? Still gonna buy the 12 volt kit and pray that it works so i can use it durring the cold months. If your thinking of trying this, DO NOT ATTEMT. BUY THE KIT. Comments / experience welcome.
jeffreyd
the kit may have some type of current reducer built in. this way you can use 12v and it will dump it down to the correct input voltage. 3 c batteries would not equal 12 volts or the amount of Ar rating that the camera would need. Luckly you did not fry it.
archerystud
Yeah, I'd say you were lucky you didn't fry it.
