Wood Chippers

titelines

Question

Hello!

Does anyone have any experience with wood chippers? Our neighbor bought one, but is disappointed with it. He'll be returning it and is wondering what he should get.

This would be for personal use, but something that could take up to a 4" branch, and adjust to make different size chips would be great. Portability is also important, so it should be able to be hooked up to an ATV and hauled around a property.

Thanks for any input!

I have rented the big rigs and the one thing I found interesting was being told that you can't run buckthorn through it. They guy said that the stuff just rolls up and makes a mess. I can't imagine having enough work to justify owning one and having to put up with the storage and maintenance on it. If I were to get a yard size one I think I would probably look at the Troy Built products. Back when I was young enough to think about this sort of thing I was impressed with the quality of their products.

Thanks for the replies. I've done some research for him and found three that seem to fit the bill. The guy has acreage and enough brush to last a lifetime. Wants to chip it up and use it around the house, garden etc. For how much he's going to use it (and me too:)), it actually makes more sense financially for him to buy one than to rent one all the time.

Thanks again - Any more input is appreciated.
