terrible_fisherman
Can any of you tell me if any lakes near Red are good for spearing Northern Pike in during the winter? I am trying to find a lake to tag a few small ones for pickling during the day and then be able to go over to red at night for walleyes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. BOUNCED
What's wrong with Red? Plus you get a good crack at seeing a trophy.
merkman
You might have an opportunity to sight fish some walleyes too?Just be careful of the slot limits.26"-40" protected slot, 1 over 40"To be safe you would be targeting aprox 20" (aprox 2 to 2.5 lbs) northerns or smaller for the pickel jar. bassNspear
not worth spearing on there, or taken the change with the slot limit they have there
Gordie
I would go there for the trophy factor in itself.

Gordie
I know that they would be bigger than my 40 incher on the wall and that looked like a log with teeth and gills
terrible_fisherman
I didn't know you could spear on red. I figured with the restrictive slot it was closed to it. Have any of you ever done it? How is the water clarity?
merkman
People spear it.Water Clarity is 3 to 6 ft.That is the same rating as Lake of the Woods.Quite a few spear Lake of the Woods too.http://water.umn.edu/cgi-bin/mapserv.cgi...332704.37413238I think it is tannin stained from the bogs and swamps. But as I said before be careful of the slot.Quote:Speared Illegal Slot Limit Northern Pike FineMaximum fine of $1000 and/or up to 90 days in jail.In addition, any gear used to take the fish could be confiscated (such as rods/reels, spears).License revocation is a possibility if two or more violations in a 3 year period, or if restitution value is over $500.Criminal record for the offender. pikestabber
Tip-up pike by day, walleyes/crappies (and pout) by night. No need to bounce around!
browning_gold
Have known spearers who went to red. They say you havent speared until you speared that lake.
