SIGHTING - IN ?

Recommended Posts

So, i bought a Brand new mossberg slug barrel for my mossberg 500 pump. The barrel is 24", ported, fully rifled, with adj. rifle sights.

Went to sight it in on sat. Got the windage right on. BUT, the elevation is a diff. story.

Tried moving the rear sight all the way up and down. and all points inbetween. At 25 & 50 yards, with the rear sight all the way back (down) , the gun shoots 15" high. with the rear sight all the way up, i cant even hit the target.

Tried hornady, federal, winchester, and lightfield sabot slugs. Did i get a bad barrel? Dont know what else to do. HELP PLEASE.

so when the back ramp was all the way down it was still 15" high? I would call mossberg and tell them the problem, sounds like something was mounted too high like the front post.....(I am sitting here with one finger in front and two fingers making the V for the back sight)

on a bench, were you holding the forearm tight to the sandbags or leadsled?

can you return it and try another one? I know that sounds expensive (ammo wise) but I am guessing that something is not right with those sights, it is not the barrel

A similar problem happened with a relative of mine and a stoeger shotgun, he bought it, shot it twice it fell apart, it was used, they didn't want to stand behind it at all, he talked to the manager and got a new stoeger. You might have to get a little bit nasty with them.
