Muskrats

Don't really know if this is the best place to post, but was wondering if what I saw was normal.

My dad and I went out duck hunting. We saw around 3-4 dozen muskrats while jump shooting down the river. They were everywhere, in fact in seems like we saw more muskrats than ducks. I've never seen this many muskrats ever, and was wondering if it was normal.

Any thoughts?

very normal, sounds like a great location for traps and alot of traps!

There were a couple of ponds I use to go to quite often (1-200 acres) when I was a teenager. Every year we would eliminate 50 to 60 of these rats and by the next year there would be just as many again for us.

With as dry as the summer was they all moved to where the water was at and im sure if you find these spots they with be thick.

Since the prices are so low, no real reason to trap them.

Even with low prices they should be trapped to keep a healthy line . Alot of times the critters will be seen more because their activity levels rise before or after bad weather .
