The (LBD) Luminescent Blue Dace Glow Blue Chubby was an exclusive I designed for Gander Mountain, yup..it is a killer Chubby Darter pattern. They are very limited now...so get a few early in the season before they are gone.

This year there is 4 NEW Holographic Salmo Chubby Darter Patterns that will be a hit. Wait tell you see them. wink

Glow Green, Glow Red, and in limited supplies the Gander LBD in Glow Blue, but all will be available this season.

Scheels also has a pattern called the Candlestick, it's a good pattern, a must have for Chubby Darter fans.

I hate to add to your Salmo addiction...but I will. smile

New Salmo Chubbys this season are the (GRP) Gold Red Perch, (GYP) Gold Yellow Perch, (SRB) Silver Red Black, and the (SRO) Silver Red Orange.

Be sure to get a few Salmo Zippers (Hog Callers), very high performing walleye lures available in 2 glow patterns, the (LRR) Luminescent Real Roach (Soft realistic pattern and glow with a tint of red), and the (LFT) Glow Fire Tiger (Extreme glow).

A non luminescent favorite of mine is the (SBO) Silver Blue Orange belly Salmo Zipper....it rocks. My all time favorite is the (LRR) Luminescent Real Roach....so far anyway.

There are 3 new Salmo Zippers out this season that I will be sure to have, the (HP) Hot Perch,(GMO) Gold Metallic Orange, and the (CMD) Clown Metallic Dace.

The Salmo USA web site should have the new colors and patterns of the Chubby Darters and Zippers up by now, and you can also request a catalog from them.

I'm going to test the new Holographic Salmo Chubbys on some fall vertical walleye jigging this weekend and see how they prove up.

In the past I have had some great success on Chubbys on open water vertical jigging in the fall during early transitional movements of walleye in from deeper water.

I'll let you know how it go's.

Luminescent Salmo Chubby Darters are available in LOD, RD, LBD, and LGD in #3, #4, #5, and in most cases also in a #6.

The #3 Salmo Chubby Darters is popular for crappie, perch, and most panfish species, and at times for walleye. A #4 also can apply to the same situations.

The #5 and #6 Salmo Chubby Darters tend to draw in bigger walleye on average.

My Go-2 Salmo Chubby Darters size is a #6 for walleye, and if they prove to be reluctant, I then move down the scale to the next smaller size to see what they want on that day or night.

Walleye eat big stuff, they are not too shy about it once you get their blood up and hot on the trail of a Chubby that is up and on the run. Yet there are times when they come in hot on a larger Chubby and then...Naaaaaaaaaa...they hit the brakes...they appear suddenly to loose interest. Yet by adjusting your presentation this may change.

My answer to this is have a back-up Chubby rigged and ready on a separate rod in a size or two smaller to switch up quickly before they move on. A "Bait and Switch" method can convert the lookers into hookers.

I use a similar technique with the Salmo "Zipper", I call this technique "Hog Calling". I rip the Zipper to call them in...if they are hot you will know quickly enough..THUD.

But if they come in hot and then cool off mysteriously....it's time to "Bait and Switch" with a smaller Salmo Chubby. This often produces immediate strikes, they just wanted a smaller more vulnerable prey item. The "Hog Calling" got their attention from a distance, but once the bellied up to the table they found they were more in the mood for a snack than a big meal.

The new Salmo Chubby Darter Holographic patterns may well address this situation by means of the new unique finish and a optical trick of nature due to light refraction. The Holographic finish gives the illusion of a larger profile at a distance, and once the fish gets closer the illusion wains and the size appears more appropriately proportional to the prey item. This new Holographic pattern should prove useful and effective in many situations.

A critical factor to working jigs well, is to utilize your electronics well. Learn to trust what your Vexilar is telling you. It will tell you the mood and orientation of the fish in relation to your bait as well as how they are reacting to your lure and overall presentation. If they appear intimidated by the size or the action, adapt your presentation to fit their mood.

Very often anglers who try the Chubby and say it didn't or doesn't work, just didn't work it well enough, or in the right combination's in that given situation. Adapt and be vigilant, it will pay off.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
