Mass Air flow sensor

I got a 05 Gmc with the 5.3 with 85,000 miles on it. truck keeps throwing an engine light on had a computer put on it and mass air flow sensor comes up! Wondering if my Exhaust is causing it? or wat. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

What code specifically are you getting.

Have you taken a look at the sensor to see if it is clean?

The enigine light come's on and stay's on for a couple days then goes off, as soon as i kick it down to pass some one it comes back on does this all the time The sensor itself looks clean the little wire strands arent broke or anyhting!

Had a 02 grand prix that hand that flow sensor go bad on it. Its pretty easy to replace. Once it was replaces engine light never came back on

You can also spray Mass Air Flow Cleaner on it just to see if it works. Do you have any add on air intake units? Sometimes that can throw codes if you don't have an updated sensor and also allow more dirt in making the sensor throw the codes. My wife's Altima also had a similar issue and we replaced the MAF sensor and then it threw a new code out within hours for new oxygen sensors. Then we find out they want to replace the catalytic converter for $800 and change. Hopefully you're not on a slippery slope!

A $7 or so can of MAF cleaner is your first step to try even if the dealer says you should replace it. Had that on my 05 Silverado, took me one half hour + or - a little to take it apart, clean it, and put it back together and I've never gotten an error code sense. Dealer want to replace it for $350 plus labor...

A good can of brake clean will be cheaper, and work better. Every can of MAF cleaner I have ever used leaves a film on it. If you can, compare before buying them, take a mirror, spray a little on it, let it dry, if it leaves a film, dont buy it, if it dries clear, that is what you want. I use CRC brake cleaner, it is in a red can.
