Hey all,

I'm doin the fall fair this year at my school and I chose the wildlife catagory and my teacher said that I could do an Ice Fishing display.

My question for you all is what do you think I could put in it to make it really interesting????

Im thinking of just bringing in some poles, my vex, possibly my one man shelter, and some jigs lures, and some info on how to do it.

thanks for any input.

Jordyn

I would say cover the extremes, pimp out a 5 gallon bucket for the low budgeted aspect and all the toys you had listed. I would get some diagrams of how to tie knots too. I know when I taught an afterschool class to elementary students, we spent one whole evening talking safety and learning to tie knots.

Approach it from both angles. We (my fishing buddy and I) had some of our best fishing sitting on buckets and bombing around Mille Lacs in a ford escort.

I always thought how intrigueing it is how icefishing has evolved from a bucket an a dowel rod to the electronic rage it has today. Yhat would make a neat an interesting display. From dowle rods to super sensitive grapite, a bucket on open ice to 15,000 dollar ice castle, an quick portables for run an gun fish hunters, an from hand augers to high speed two cycle an four stroke augers, from lead depth finder to gpstracking an depth contour hand held devises. you get the picture. Just a thought. dont forget spearing, hardly anybody angled when I was first introduced to the ice it was all spearing. Boar

that would be a cool Idea.

on one side you have a 5 gallon bucket, two pieces of plywood Leaned against each other, a spud bar and a wooden dowel.

on the other you have the portable, buddy heater, power auger, LED lighting, flasher and graphite rod.

I have found some interesting old Ice fishing pictures online. Maybe show a few "old timey pics" of how they used to do it.

Well now heres a chance for you..... start contacting some of the dealers / sponsers manufactures write them a good story and maybe they will send ya stuff for the display and use afterwards... as it is good educational materials ie: how sonar finds the fish....ect... work it! enjoy and learn!

Jordyn, to truly earn that A+, I think that we here at fishing MN advise you to truly get an understanding of old school ice fishing, you need to spend January an Feburary on lake of the woods with nothing but a bucket, dowel rod an a hand auger each time you fish. There is nothing better than first hand experience on both end of the spectrum. That A+ will feel so much better. Let us know how ya do OK? Later boar. Just ribbin ya a little

i would also add some of the new things that have come out for saftey's sake, like the picks and the floating suit (cant remember the name right now, little sleepy) and i guess if your doing it on wildlife, maybe try to throw in a little fishing conservation such as a few fishin laws and why they are important like limits, and possibly no live bait lakes and why... just a few ideas.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
