SD pheasant hunt

I'm trying to set up a trip to SD and was wondering if it is a problem going when deer season is open? I'm looking at Nov. 20-23. Thinking about going to central SD.

If you are trying to get on private land, it's tougher during the gun season. On public land I'd say your fine. Deer hunting in South Dakota is more driving a round in a pickup than anything. It's not like Northern MN where you might accidentally walk up on someone.

Unless you have private land to hunt, try public and it never hurts to ask. where I go in SD for many years most people will let you hunt if you ask.

We've been going out to Huron every Thanksgiving weekend for years when deer hunting is open. Don't even see or notice many deer hunters.

You are better off later in the year. It is easier to get on public and private land, even with deer hunting season. The reduction in pheasant hunting pressure more than makes up for the deer hunting pressure.

And if you are real lucky, you will have a nice, fresh accumulation of snow for your hunt...
