The first image is the strongest from a compositional standpoint. It's hard to be engaged by photos where the subject is flying away from you and there is not eye contact. In regards to the first image, looks like the highlights are blown and the image is a bit overexposed. Since dof really is not an issue in a scenario like this, next time try increasing the shutter speed and check the histogram after the initial few shots to make sure your not blowing the highlights. Also, the bird is slightly centered. Given the direction the heron is looking, it might make for a more interesting composition to place the heron more to the left. Lots to think about when you have a wild subject in front of you, but a total high when it comes together smile
